A police official at Gulu Central police station has been accused of raping a 13 year old primary 7 pupil last week from the cells of Child and Protection unit. The mother of the teenager who declined to tell why her daughter was in police custody said medical examination showed penetration.
“This man has to pay for defiling my daughter but now most of them are not responding to me very well”, said Abwolo Sunday the mother of the girl.
The 43 year old single mother said the officers are not giving her a clear answer and she’s afraid the officer might walk free.
When contacted, the PRO at first denied knowledge of the rape allegation but later responded.
“It’s not that he has raped the report I have is we have one officer who alleged of attempting to rape some girl who was brought to the police for medical checkup on a rape case. She came late in the evening and the doctor said she could not be checked that evening so she was kept at the police to be checked the next day,” said Okema
“There was one officer by the name Bongomin who went in the night where the girl was sleeping and he already had interest of having sex which the girl but he did not, so that is the case we have, added Okema
Okema further said, “As a police man, he is not different with any other person outside there and the charge against him is attempted rape or indecent assault and the file is ready with the Resident State Attorney. He will appear before court as an individual but not as a police man”
Bongomin reportedly went in the night and picked her from child and family protection unit and defiled her and medical reports indicate there was penetration.
